The Diocese of Kalookan in the Philippine capital has launched a program that will accredit social communicators in the diocese on Saturday, February 6.
The program aims to raise the standards of ministers and volunteers in parishes for the social communication ministry.
The Accreditation Program for Social Communication Ministers is open to bloggers, vloggers, and podcasters and all those interested to join the ministry.
In a statement, the diocese said it aims to build the concept of “One Kalookan Communication” that will synchronize the flow of information, catechesis, and communication among the faithful.
Social communicators will be equipped with “technical skills necessary for their ministries” and will also be provided with “sound understanding of the Church’ teachings on pastoral communications.”
The Vatican’s Dicastery of Communication has earlier lauded the Diocese of Kalookan for its dedication to establish the program.
“The Catholic Church is living in this digital age and considers it necessary to improve its communication and to offer spiritual education also through online platforms,” said Natasa Govekar of the dicastery’s Theological-Pastoral Communication department.
Govekar stressed the need of a formation program for social communication ministers to enhance their capacity in delivering the “message of our faith.”
“The dicastery strongly encourages every effort for formation in the field of social communication,” she said.
Bishop Pablo Virgilio David of Kalookan said the program is part of the diocese’s efforts for “capacity building,” including the philosophy and principles behind the Church’s social communication ministry.
The program, which opened this month, will last until the first week of March with participants completing six modules and passing written and practical assessments.
