Photos: Philippines’ ‘Flores de Mayo’ during the pandemic

“Flores de Mayo (Flowers of May)” is a devotion in the Philippines dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Every day during the month of May, in churches across the country, Filipinos would offer flowers and prayers to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The month-long celebration would usually end with the “Santacruzan,” a ritual pageant that is participated by the town’s or the village’s ladies.

The pandemic, however, changed the traditional practice. In the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Quezon City, the celebration ended in simple ceremonies of offering flowers to the Blessed Mother.
