Manila’s new prelate gets vaccinated against COVID-19 ahead of installation

Cardinal Jose Advincula has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 ahead of his installation as the new archbishop of Manila on June 24.

In a social media post, the Manila archdiocese said the 69-year old cardinal also encouraged the public to get vaccinated against the disease.

The Archdiocese of Manila launched on Tuesday, June 15, a nine-day “spiritual preparation” ahead of Cardinal’s installation at the Manila Cathedral.

Bishop Broderick Pabillo, apostolic administrator of Manila, urged the faithful to pray and perform acts of charity during the preparation period.

He also encouraged all parishes and communities in the archdiocese to spend an hour of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament and pray together for Cardinal Advincula on June 23.

“Let us study and reflect on the mystery of the Church, the role of the bishop, and the realities of the Archdiocese of Manila,” said Bishop Pabillo.

The archdiocese’s Commission on Catechesis and Education has prepared short catechetical video presentations on the topics.

The bishop also encouraged parishes to organize charitable activities like feeding programs and distribution of food bags or gift checks.

“Let this be a gift of Cardinal Advincula to our needy brethren in the Archdiocese,” said Bishop Pabillo.
