Diocese of Borongan to hold day of prayer, fasting

The Diocese of Borongan in the central Philippines will hold a “Diocesan Day of Prayer and Fasting” for deliverance from the pandemic after an alarming spike of cases in Eastern Samar province.

Bishop Crispin Varquez of Borongan has declared July 20 a “day of prayer and fasting” as an expression of solidarity with those who lost their loved ones and those who are suffering from the disease and quarantine restrictions.

“I admonish all Catholics in the diocese of Borongan, offer this day for prayer and fasting. Let us ask God for deliverance from this pandemic,” said the bishop in a statement.

He urged everyone to join the simultaneous celebration of the Holy Hour and Holy Mass.

The bishop, together with the clergy of Borongan, will also hold a “penitential walk” and recitation of the Holy Rosary from Borongan cathedral to the Chaplaincy of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Sabang, Borongan City.

In October last year, Bishop Varquez and Catholic faithful joined a 14-kilometer walk from Borongan cathedral to the Parish of Our Lady of Assumption in Borongan as one of the “spiritual initiatives” organized by the diocese to ask for “divine intervention” for deliverance from the coronavirus pandemic

“Join me in begging God that He may save us from the critical and grim situation,” said the bishop.
