NPA declare unilateral ceasefire on Christmas and New Year

The Maoist Communist Party of the Philippines has declared a unilateral four-day ceasefire on Christmas eve and New Year.

The CPP Central Committee ordered its New People’s Army guerilla forces to implement the four-day ceasefire from 00.00 of December 25 to 23:59 of December 26 and on 00:00 of December 31 to 23:59 of January 1, 2026.

The Philippine Army in Northern Mindanao, however, said they will continue their offensive against the rebels despite the ceasefire announcement.

Major Patrick Martinez, spokesperson of Army’s 4th Infantry Division said the unilateral ceasefire call by the rebels should be an occasion for rebels to think if they should continue the armed struggle.

Martinez said based on their data,  NPA forces in the Caraga region are now down to 27 armed fighters while only 47 fighters remain in the Bukidnon area.
