Police urged to swiftly solve journalist’s killing

The Kapisanan ng mga Broadcaster sa Pilipinas (KBP) chapter in Butuan City has asked police authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation on the killing of Gerry Campos, a broadcaster-turned-municipal councilor who was stabbed to death in Marihatag town in Surigao del sur last Saturday, December 6.

Campos was fatally stabbed Saturday morning while walking near a gasoline station by a 42-year-old suspect who was arrested later in the day in pursuit operations by police authorities.

The motive for the killing, however, remains unclear.

“We are deeply saddened and outraged by this senseless act of violence. Gerry’s untimely death is not only a tragic loss to his family and friends but also to the media community and the public he served with dedication,” the KBP-Butuan City Chapter said in a statement Saturday night.

Before he was elected as municipal councilor, Campos had served as director of the Radio Mindanao Network and manager of Radyo Serbato in Butuan City.
